Our History
Carterhall Pembroke Welsh Corgis was founded in 1970, when Joseph, who was raised in
Wisconsin, bought a Corgi puppy from Mr. & Mrs. Elwin & Glee Leet of Leetwood
kennels in Union Grove, Wisconsin. This puppy, SIR WINKEN OF CARTER HALL,
was a sturdy, deep red dog, greatly inbred on his sire's side on Int. Ch. Lees Symphony,
through many of the Penrick dogs. This dog won several points toward his championship and
placed in the American Bred Dog class at the Lakeshore Specialty in 1972 under Miss Patsy
Hewan (Stormerbanks), and Joseph has been hooked on Corgis ever since!
After having a few American Corgis, we turned our attention to England and began
importing
top quality British imports over the years. All
of our Corgis are closely bred on British imports, where we have found the type,
temperament, soundness, and quality we were looking for. Our current stock is based
on Pemland and Woodhenge, with all the important related bloodlines of Belroyd, Cordach,
Blands, Bulcorig, and some of the later Stormerbanks. More recently, we have added
some top quality American bloodlines that trace back to the great American sire, Am. Ch.
Martindale Butter Brickle (Eng. Am. Ch. Lynfarne Poldark x Am. Ch. Virginia of
Fox Covert), and have incorporated some top quality dogs from
Australia as well.
The kennel name of
Carterhall
is actually based on the CARTER HALL
estate in Virginia, as Joseph is descended from the early Carter settlers of Virginia many
generations back.
